CIFB Chap. 60 Summary

First post of 2018. Ahh, how I already miss you 2017… Thank you for all the new years wishes on the last post!!

Chapter 60:

For some reason, Jiang Ying felt that something about Ling Ke seemed very familiar. Earlier, she simply wanted to take a look at them playing; now, she couldn’t help but recall that boy from many years ago.

It wasn’t b/c that that experience was incredibly memorable, but that Qi Yu came back to China a very limited number of times. By coincidence, he even came to the TV station to look for her that year and then got dragged to do a duet, therefore her impression of that boy became deeper.

Being asked this, Ling Ke’s heart almost stopped. Afraid that Qi Feng would get jealous if the truth came out, he feigned ignorance: “Eh? I haven’t.”

Jiang Ying nodded and didn’t ask anymore. There were a lot of similar ppl in this world, so perhaps she remembered wrong.

But this question and answer session aroused Qi Feng’s curiosity, so he asked, “What talent audition?”

Jiang Ying smiled and explained, “Five years ago, our TV station conducted an event and invited middle and elementary school students to come and participate. Actually, the main goal was to find and groom a junior anchor for a children’s program.”

If those who went to MMIA wanted to do something like this, all they needed to do was find some connections. For example, in Qi Feng’s case, if he was interested, all he needed was an “Ok” from Jiang Ying, so she didn’t mention such events to her son.

“At the time, there were a lot of people. Ling Ke seemed familiar and knew how to play piano, so I thought he might……”

Qi Feng gave an “Oh” while Ling Ke sat on the side, silent. However, Qi Feng keenly noticed that the other was tightly gripping the edge of the piano bench.

Perhaps his mom wouldn’t be able to tell, but Qi Feng had known Ling Ke for half a year now and could sense the other’s mood from a variety of details and small habits.

Qi Feng was a bit confused; why would this topic make Ling Ke nervous?

However, before he could think more deeply about the reason, Jiang Ying already changed the topic.

 

During the day while Jiang Ying was at work, the house became Qi Feng and Ling Ke’s two people heaven. They stuck to each like glue watching TV, playing DotA, and teasing Snowlass, not separating for even a moment. Qi Feng even requested the housekeeper to teach him to cook so he could personally make something for Ling Ke to eat.

When Jiang Ying came back this day, she saw that there were leftovers from lunch on the table, and after asking the housekeeper, found out that these were actually made by Qi Feng. Shocked, she picked some up, and thought it didn’t taste bad……

Although Qi Feng was very considerate all these years, he had never cooked before. Yet the 1st time he did, it was actually for someone outside the family. A bit bitter in her heart, she felt an indescribable feeling of having raised a son for someone else.

Jiang Ying asked the housekeeper, “Where are those two?”

The housekeeper smiled: “Upstairs. I cut some fruit and brought it up earlier, and they were reading in the study.”

Hearing this, Jiang Ying was even more astonished. Qi Feng liked to play, and since small, only studied when forced or provoked by his brother. It was a rare holiday, and he even brought a friend home; she wanted them to relax for a few days thus didn’t bother them… Who would have thought that those two would be so hardworking?

She silently walked upstairs to the door of the study, and sure enough, it was all quiet inside.

The door wasn’t completely closed so she looked through the crack, and the two of them were indeed reading. However, their sitting positions were so suggestive that she couldn’t bear to directly look at them.

Especially Qi Feng. He had his legs crossed and his head on Ling Ke shoulder. One hand was absent-mindedly turning the pages of the book, while the other was around Ling Ke’s neck, and from time to time, would play with the other’s ear.

Seeing this, Jiang Ying immediately halted the hand about to knock on the door.

Originally, she wanted to wait until they parted before knocking, but unexpectedly, Qi Feng then scooted closer and kissed Ling Ke’s cheek.

“……Don’t horse around,” Ling Ke softly reprimanded and moved his shoulder to avoid Qi Feng’s harassment.

Qi Feng stopped for maybe 2 seconds, then reached over to play with the other’s ear again. Ling Ke continued reading.

After playing for a bit, Qi Feng couldn’t sit still anymore, this time actually grabbing Ling Ke’s chin towards him and going for a kiss.

“Nnn……” Being interrupted, Ling Ke was clearly agitated, but under Qi Feng’s ministrations, gradually sunk into the kiss……

As a 40+ year old woman who hadn’t been interested in a relationship for years, Jiang Ying actually felt her cheeks heat up seeing this.

She turned and left without disturbing them.

……Sigh, the children have grown up now, so maybe she should go find her second spring?

 

During dinner, she found out that Ling Ke was actually reading a book she wrote. A few years ago, a publisher friend of hers wanted her, as a “well-known finance program’s anchor”, to write a workplace encouragement type of book, and she agreed.

The book didn’t sell many copies, but it wasn’t a serious endeavor to begin with.

Hearing that Ling Ke read her book, she only said, “As for the workplace, one still needs to personally experience it. Reading the bare-bones won’t offer much.”

Ling Ke also agreed, but when a person accumulated enough experience, sometimes their words were worth more than their weight in gold, perhaps offering unexpected enlightenment.

Excellence was a habit, and up until now, he still remembered what Jiang Ying had said all those years ago. Her words resonated with him then and caused him to start working harder to climb to the top.

In life, many “coincidences” were built on top of years of preparation and planning… For example, him and Qi Feng. If it wasn’t for all the things that happened in the past, perhaps it would have been impossible for them to get together.

Ling Ke didn’t say any words of praise, but as someone who’s met countless people, Jiang Ying could still feel his respect towards her.

Actually, she also found Ling Ke extremely admirable. This child had a calm and steady personality, and if properly cultivated, would definitely be a talent in the field of journalism.

Thinking of all the things her son’s done these past few days, Jiang Ying suddenly came up with a plan and asked, “Ling Ke, are you interested in an internship this summer at the TV station? I can personally train you.”

Ling Ke stared blankly, but before he could reply, Qi Feng already complained, “Mom, we’re only freshman.”

Jiang Ying arched an eyebrow: “So what if you’re freshman? A lot of assistant jobs only require a high school diploma. Besides, you’re students at F University and have free time in the summer, so isn’t interning at the TV station a great opportunity? Even if other people wanted this chance, they might not get it.”

“Yes!” Ling Ke nodded. Although Jiang Ying was a broadcasting anchor, but in the field of journalism, she was undoubtedly a veteran. This was an extremely rare chance!

Qi Feng gloomily poked his rice w/ his chopsticks. He had already started planning his vacation with Ling Ke to Tibet or the northern plains this summer…… How could his mom fight with him over his lover’s precious time!

Jiang Ying continued to use Ling Ke as an example to attack her son: “Look at how hard-working Ling Ke is. You’d better not rely on the fact that I’m your mom, thinking that these resources are dispensable. If you don’t want to separate from Ling Ke, then come intern together and start learning about work.”

……One of them already took the bait, so how could the other not follow?

Qi Feng looked at Ling Ke, and seeing the other gaze back full of expectations, could no longer continue to blatantly refuse.

“Let’s wait until summer and then talk.” Qi Feng could only unhappily accept.

Jiang Ying smiled, feeling a lot better in her heart. It seems she found quite a good method to educate these two little ones! Gave birth to one and got one for free. Looks like this investment’s not bad.

 

Due to Jiang Ying’s acceptance, Ling Ke felt very relaxed at Qi Feng’s place. But good days don’t last long, and soon, school started again.

Back on campus, the students naturally discussed the grades from last semester’s finals, and as expected, Ling Ke got 1st place. He obtained a scholarship and even invited everyone in room 412 out to eat.

To avoid something like being caught by Gao JunFei after kissing for 10+ minutes, Ling Ke and Qi Feng established a set of basic rules. They must restrain themselves and not act too obviously in front of others.

Recently, Qi Feng truly went over the line. For example, as soon as they arrived back at the dorm, he actually dragged Ling Ke into the bathroom and did it once…… Just thinking about that made Ling Ke embarrassed to no end!

Hearing Ling Ke’s request, Qi Feng felt bitter in his heart. Now, not only did he have to sleep in that metal cage again, but he couldn’t be intimate w/ Ling Ke. It was like being back in the dark ages, no, even worse than the dark ages!

During the “dark ages”, he and Ling Ke’s feelings didn’t connect yet, so even if the other was off-limits, he could accept it. But now, even a glance would light the fire in his heart, yet he couldn’t kiss and couldn’t touch; wasn’t that literally a form of torture?

To this, Qi Feng also made a request: From now on, instead of sleeping feet-to-feet, they should switch to sleeping head-to-head so they could kiss while Gao JunFei and Xie QiBao weren’t looking. Other than that, they had to go to a hotel at least once a week to take care of “certain” needs.

“That…… It wouldn’t be good if we’re seen going into a hotel by others, right?” Although Ling Ke also wanted to make love w/ Qi Feng every week, he still couldn’t throw away propriety.

Qi Feng thought a bit, then said, “My mom has a house nearby. It’s furnished and about 10 minutes away by car. However, no one has lived there since she bought it, so how about I find some time to clean it up, and we’ll go there?”

…Could there possibly be better conditions than that? Ling Ke happily agreed, “Ok.”

Therefore, they bought some bed products, then bought some decorations online and turned that house into a wedding-like room. The first time they spent the night there, Qi Feng even joked that it was their “bridal night”……

They’d go to that house every weekend while telling their roommates that they were “going home”.

As for their new sleeping positions, Xie QiBao never even noticed while Gao JunFei turned a blind eye and pretended he saw nothing.

For a while after that, the schoolwork was light, and everyone did their own thing.

Qi Feng also entered the student council due to Zhou Yan’s invitation and started preparing for the recent large-scale campus event as the host.

This day, he saw Qi QiuRui being pestered by a girl asking for Ling Ke’s WeChat: “Big sis! Please, just tell me!”

Qi Feng narrowed his eyes, and just as he was planning to go forth and take care of this hidden love rival, he heard Qi QiuRui say, “Fine, I’ll send it to you.”

Somewhat angry, Qi Feng waited until that girl left before asking with a smile, “Senior, why did you give Ling Ke’s WeChat to her so easily?”

Qi QiuRui smiled, then whispered, “Don’t worry, I gave her the side account that Ling Ke doesn’t use.”
